ESL or English as a Second Language teaching Jobs are the biggest job market trend for foreigners working in Dalian. With contracts starting from 12 months , working as an English teacher can give you the flexibility to travel and see more of the world while making plenty of money to cover your travel expenses. Especially if it is your first time working abroad, if you are fresh out of college, or looking for a life changing experience. Working in China, particularly in Dalian, emerges as the optimal choice for your endeavors.

The pay for an English teacher can give you a starting salary higher than you may make in your home country and give you the added working experience that you may need to move on in your career or dreams. Living and working in China is a very safe option. You will find that the Chinese are very kind and helpful . The crime rate is extremely low compared to other countries and with 24/7 surveillance on the streets and in public places you needn’t worry about getting burglarized or mistreated. You may find that if you leave your phone accidentally in a public place, when you return it will be sitting where you left it.

Moving on, the medical expenses in Dalian are very reasonable compared to most countries. For example a doctor’s visit may be free at the public hospital or about 100 CNY for a consultation, in a private clinic, and your medicine may cost you less than the consultation. You will find that insurance isn’t needed.

Your work as an English teacher here will more than likely provide you with basic insurance for any on the job accidents that may occur or serious injury coverage such as a broken limb or major surgery. You can expect to be able to save most of your salary in Dalian. The rent in Dalian would cost between 10%, more or less,of your salary. Groceries will cost you about 5% to 10% of your salary depending on if you will cook more at home or eat out. Electricity is very cheap here. The most you may pay for an electric bill in the summer for a 120m sq. home is 300 CNY or so, which could mean about 1 to 2% of your income, otherwise the bill could be less than 150 CNY.

After all these expenses you could save more than half of your income per month and still be thriving and enjoying yourself. Some English teaching jobs in Dalian offer end of contract bonuses which are almost equivalent to a months wage. In addition each month you can receive bonus pay for new students and class upgrades, for example you have a pre kindergarten level 1 class moving up to a pre kindergarten level 2 class and you can receive money for each student individually that moves up with you. Also you may be offered an apartment stipend of up to 2,000 CNY torwards rent. So you could end up saving 70% of your income. I know this may all sound too good to be true but having worked here for nearly 5 years and experienced illness, traveling, leisure, and work as an English teacher I can vouch for all the above.
